A Future for Ambitious and High-Quality Education for All
Education Policy Agenda 2024-2029
Providing ambitious and high-quality education for every learner is the central goal that the Flemish Education Council presents for the next Flemish government. This requires policy with a long-term perspective, looking beyond the next legislative term, and with a focus on quality development. A performant and coherent education policy requires a comprehensive approach across both education and other policy areas, respect for the autonomy of educational institutions and professionals, and guaranteed funding.
To strengthen education quality in the broader sense in the long term, the Flemish Education Council highlights three priority challenges. These cannot be solved in one legislative term, but we want to lay a solid foundation in the next five years to jointly address them.
Diversity-Responsive and Inclusive Education
- Ensure maximum accessibility to the desired educational path for all learners, particularly for learners in vulnerable situations.
- Establish a policy discourse that recognizes vulnerability and aims for emancipation without stigmatization.
- In consultation with educational partners in the Vlor, develop a global and feasible inclusion plan, coordinated with other policy areas.
- Boost care and support at every level in that plan.
- Implement measures to promote more diverse teams of educational professionals.
Focus on Mental Well-being
- Develop an information campaign to implement visible policies around (mental) well-being in every educational institution.
- Make creating a connected climate in every educational institution a policy priority.
- Invest in infrastructure to ensure a safe and stimulating learning and working environment.
Strong Education through Strong Education Professionals
- Create a career pact for all education professionals.
- Make professional development a structural part of the teacher's role, providing the necessary conditions such as time and space.
- Strengthen teacher training so that it remains the foundation for every teacher's formation.
