A diversity-sensitive personnel policy as a lever for democratization. Recommendation on diversity in the workplace in higher education. (12 November 2019)

If higher education is to become more diverse, all domains of all higher education institutions must be convinced of this and they must set up and implement a policy on it. If that does not happen, a lot of talent is lost and that cannot be justified from a personal and social as well as from an economic and labor market perspective. This also means that the personnel structure must reflect society. Staff diversity is an important lever for promoting the inflow, flow and outflow of disadvantaged groups in higher education. In this recommandation, the Council discusses how institutions can get started with this. It  provides specific levers to make the staff of higher education institutions more diverse.

At the same time, it is important that employees from higher education institutions learn how to deal better with diversity. The Vlor investigated how that could be achieved. Which competences do employees need so that all students feel at home and appreciated in the institution? Which competences must be present in the institution to ensure that each institution can develop into a truly inclusive learning environment, a learning environment that facilitates opportunities for success?
