EUNEC (English)

The European Network of Education Councils has originated from the mutual interest of several national education councils in Member States of the European Union in each others activities. EUNEC brings representatives of education councils together for debate.

The network organizes seminars and conferences and sets up task forces on specific issues related to themes of the European education policy. It performs research and formulates common statements to the European political institutions responsible for education and training policy.

Consultation and commitment

Education and training today draw on the effort and commitment of many groups in social, cultural and economic life. In the European countries there has grown a wider public acknowledgement of these social partners and their role in the field of education and training. Through their representatives in consultative bodies, these organisations take an active part in designing, planning and implementing education and training policies and activities.

Education Councils throughout Europe

Many other European countries today have their national or regional education councils. Their constitution and authority differs, but generally speaking representatives and/or experts with various backgrounds debate together to provide advice, organise consultation bases and prepare prospective studies on issues of education and training policy. Several of them are EUNEC members.

The European policy level

As education and training gradually develop an international dimension, EUNEC wants to play an important part in the European level of education policy, both as a representative of the whole field of education and as a discussion partner of the European decision makers.

EUNEC officially started in 2000 during a meeting of representatives of education councils in Lisbon, after preliminary meetings in Tomar (1997) and Brugge (1998).
